Jonathan Mostow Q&A on The Megas

March 4, 2008

Check out the Wizard interview with Jonathan Mostow (director of Terminator 3 and U-571) on his latest creation with Virgin Comics, The Megas. You can read the issue #1 widescreen digital comic or buy your copy here. New digital comic chapters added Mondays and Wednesdays.

Do you think that by making a group of people about five to 10 percent better that you’ve created a “master race?”

It is a master race. That’s a good way of putting it. They are better in their minds so it does make sense that they’re on top. It’s a social contract that the rest of the public has agreed to accept. The fact is that in our lives today, we accept that George Clooney and Julia Roberts are just more fabulous than we’ll ever be. We don’t think, “We deserve to be on the cover of People magazine,” or, “We deserve to be guests on the Jay Leno show,” or, “We deserve to have articles written about us.” We just accept we’re just not as fabulous as they are. So we basically go to our job bagging groceries at the local supermarket and accept that that’s our lot in life. Our image of ourselves is that we’re just normal people and we accept that the world is run by people more—somehow—capable or wonderful or special than we are. So the quiet masses essentially don’t revolt and overthrow this monarchy because they accept on some level that the royal class is kind of better than themselves. There’s this Dada movement that feels differently and that becomes a plot element in this series.

  1. Can’t wait to see this. Mostow is really under-rated. Just look the truck chase in T3 or any of the great sequences U-35.
